Women's Crew Opens Racing at 53rd Head of the Charles Regatta

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown University women's crew placed 22nd in the women's club eight event while the Friends of Brown Women's Crew finished fourth in the women's alumnae eight event to open racing at the 53rd Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday afternoon on the Charles River.
After getting caught in a buoy line and stopping to untangle themselves, the Bears came in 22nd out of 40 entries in the women's club eight (event 23) with an adjusted time of 17:51.077 out of bow position No. 1.
Brown defeated 23rd-place Villanova (17:54.872) by over three seconds, 24th-place Holy Cross (18:00.143) by over nine seconds, and 25th-place Colgate (18:02.852) by over 11 seconds.
Earlier in the day, three different boats raced under the association of the Friends of Brown Women's Crew.
The Bears' top entry (bow 3) in the women's alumnae eight (event 19) placed fourth out of 43 entries in a time of 16:44.298. Brown defeated fifth-place Ever Green (16:56.550) by over six seconds while Virginia won the event with a time of 15:48.524. Brown's B entry (bow 15) in the race came in 11th behind an adjusted time of 17:52.237.
In the women's veteran I/II and senior veteran I/II single (event 2), Marcia Hooper '77 (bow 33) finished 41st out of 51 entries with a time of 27:05.770.
Brown continues competition at the Head of the Charles tomorrow with the women's championship four (1:30 p.m.) and with two entries in the women's championship eight (2:22 p.m.).
