PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University men's soccer program will remember and celebrate its three teams from the 1970s that reached the NCAA Final Four, as the 1973, 1975 and 1977 squads will be honored during halftime of Saturday's game against Princeton (7 PM) at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
"I am excited to have the players and coaches from the 1970s era of Brown men's soccer back on campus," said head coach Patrick Laughlin. "This was an incredible, successful and loyal group of guys. They are going to really enjoy catching up with each other and being back on College Hill."
Under the direction of legendary coach Cliff Stevenson, Brown reached the NCAA national semifinals three times during the 1970s, boasting one of the most accomplished decades in program history. The teams during that ten-year span (1970-1979) combined for an Ivy record of 46-18-5 and an overall record of 100-47-11. Brown captured four Ivy League championships during the decade and reached the NCAA Tournament nine times.
Individually, Brown had ten All-American selections during the decade, including three-time honoree Fred Pereira, and Steve Ralbovsky, the 1975 Mac Hermann Trophy recipient as the national player of the year. The Bears racked up 23 First Team All-Ivy selections during the span. Stevenson, who will join the former players on Saturday, also coached the 1968 team to a national semifinal appearance and served as head coach of the program for 31 seasons.
Brown (5-2-1) will continue Ivy League play on Saturday when the Bears host the Tigers at 7 PM.
