
Women's Hockey Suffers 4-2 Setback Versus Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Yale benefited from three power-play goals to claim a 4-2 win over the Brown women's hockey team at Meehan Auditorium on Saturday afternoon. Junior Dara Wais (Baltimore, Md.) registered her first-career goal and assist in the game.
Yale (9-11-3, 7-8-1 ECAC) took a 1-0 lead at 13:25 of the first period with a power-play goal from Phoebe Staenz. Senior Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) ended the stanza with 14 saves. The Bears were 0-for-3 on the power play while the Bulldogs were 1-for-1.
Krista Yip-Chuck and Eden Murray provided the Bulldogs with a three-goal lead with power-play tallies at 7:10 and 8:39, respectively, in the second period.
The Bears (5-18-0, 3-13-0 ECAC) got one back when Wais scored her first-career goal at 11:23 when her shot glanced off the glove of Yale's goalie. Juniors Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) and Cynthia Kyin (Stokie, Ill.) teamed up for the assists. With the helper, Donovan has recorded a point in four-straight games.
At 15:41, Wais again notched a career first, this time recording the assist on Jenna Hewett-Kenda's goal, feeding her the puck right in front to bring the Bears within one (3-2).
Yale was 2-for-2 in the second period on the power play while Brown was 0-for-1. Elvin tallied nine saves in the frame while Tera Hofmann stopped 12 shots for Yale. Brown had the lead in shots for the period at 14-11.
The Bulldogs secured the win when Courtney Pensavalle recorded a goal at 13:48 of the third and brought the team's lead to two (4-2).
Elvin finished the game with 37 saves, bringing her season total of 30+ saves games to 11. Hofmann turned the puck away 22 times on the other side.
Yale was a combined 3-for-4 on the power play while Brown was 0-for-4 in the contest. The Bulldogs outshot the Bears in the first and third period to take a 41-24 advantage in the game.
The Bears will next go on their second to last road trip of the regular season, traveling to No. 10/10 Quinnipiac on Friday, Feb. 3 and No. 9/9 Princeton on Saturday, Feb. 4. Friday's game will be played at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's puck drop will be at 3:00 p.m.
