
Swimming & Diving Teams Record Nation's Second-Highest GPA, Earn Scholar All-America Status

NORFOLK, Va. – The Brown men's and women's swimming and diving teams recorded the nation's second-highest team GPA's and were named College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams, in an announcement made by the organization on Wednesday. To achieve the honor of a CSCAA Scholar All-American Team, programs need to have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2016 fall semester. Brown is one of 394 colleges and universities to make the list, a record number for the organization.
For the women's team, the program averaged a 3.68 GPA tying with Grand Canyon for second and just narrowly behind Iona (3.69) who took the top spot. Yale (3.60) also joined the Bears in the top-25.
On the men's side, the team finished second overall with a team average of 3.55, only Grand Canyon posted a better team GPA with a 3.68. Yale (3.53), Harvard (3.46), Columbia (3.34) and Dartmouth (3.31) also represented the Ivy League in the top-25.
In total 73% of all CSCAA member programs posted GPA's above 3.00 with 91% of Division I women's teams meeting the mark. Women's teams averaged a 3.336 GPA with men slightly behind at 3.22.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 28, hosting Cornell at 12:00 p.m. at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center for both programs senior meet and final regular season competition.
