
Women's Hockey Drops 3-1 Decision Versus Harvard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by Harvard, 3-1, on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium. After two scoreless periods, the Crimson provided the game's first two goals. Brown notched its tally at 8:14 of the third before Harvard added an empty net goal to seal the win.
Harvard (3-13-2, 3-8-2 ECAC) netted the contest's first goal at 2:38 of the third when Sydney Daniels collected a wide shot that bounced off the boards in front. The Crimson took a 2-0 lead at 7:45 when Ali Peper tallied a power-play goal when she collected a rebound off the pads of senior Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.).
Brown (4-16-0, 2-11-0 ECAC) added its goal at 8:14 when sophomore Bridget Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) collected a pass in front and dished it behind to junior Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.), who put in her team-leading eighth score of the season on the power play, pulling the Bears within one (2-1). Freshman Veronica Alois (Andover, Mass.) also recorded an assist on the play.
With Elvin pulled and time ticking down, Harvard deflected a Brown pass and was able to shoot the puck ahead for the team's third goal with 1.2 seconds left on the clock (Kat Hughes).
In the scoreless first, Harvard held a 9-5 shot advantage. Brown was the lone team with a power-play opportunity, but was shut down by the Crimson. Elvin made nine saves in the frame while her counterpart Brianna Laing made five.
Neither team was able to get on the board in the second as well, with Harvard again posting a lead in shots (15-7), aided by six shots while on the power play. The Bears penalty kill fought off three infractions in the period including one in the final two minutes. Elvin concluded the stanza with 15 saves while Laing also upped her total to seven. Brown again had one power-play chance in the period.
Elvin finished the game with 38 saves, her ninth 30+ game performance, while Laing ended with 17 stops for the Crimson.
Harvard was 1-for-4 on the power play, with the game-winning goal by Peper scored on the power play. Brown was 1-for-5.
The Bears return to action tomorrow (Jan. 21) at Meehan Auditorium, hosting Dartmouth (5-14-0, 3-10-0 ECAC) at 3:00 p.m.
