PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's hockey senior captain Andrew Doane (Holliston, Mass.) has been named one of 15 nominees for the 2017 BNY Mellon Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award.
The Hockey Humanitarian Award is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen – a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism.
Doane, a Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations concentrator, is a three-time member of the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team and an active member of the Brown and Providence community. Doane currently serves as President of the Brown University Love Your Melon Foundation Campus Crew, his main community service project. The Love Your Melon Foundation is an apparel brand that gives a hat to every child battling cancer in America, funds childhood cancer research initiatives, and provides immediate support for children and their families. Love Your Melon came to Brown through Doane's classmate, Alison Rolandelli '16, who was a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award as a senior last season.
The Hockey Humanitarian Award Finalists will be announced in February. The 2017 recipient will be recognized in a ceremony on Friday, April 7, as part of Frozen Four weekend in Chicago.
