
Women's Basketball Unveils 2016-17 Schedule

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's basketball will play 14 home games, host the inaugural Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament, and compete for the opportunity to partake in the first-ever Ivy League Tournament as part of its 2016-17 schedule, head coach Sarah Behn announced on Thursday.
The Bears will serve as the hosts for the debut of the Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament from Dec. 3-4 at the Pizzitola Sports Center, marking the first time that all four Division I institutions in the state of Rhode Island will play in a tournament-style event at the same venue.
On Dec. 3, Brown plays Rhode Island at 3 p.m. while Bryant and Providence square off at 1 p.m. The winners will play in a championship game on Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. with the remaining teams competing in a consolation game at 1 p.m.
Brown hosts its fourth annual Education Day Game when the Bears play Rhode Island College on Jan. 9 at noon. As part of "What I Want to be Day," local elementary and middle school students will hear professionals speak about their fields prior to attending to the game.
The Bears open their season and home schedule with a match-up against Howard on Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. prior to playing road games at Sacred Heart (Nov. 14) and at Bryant (Nov. 17).
Bruno plays home contests against Colgate (Nov. 20) and Manhattan (Nov. 22) prior to Thanksgiving and returns to action after the holiday at Binghamton on Nov. 27.
After competing in the Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament, the Bears play at Vermont (Dec. 8) before breaking for finals. Returning from the break, Brown hosts St. Peter's on Dec. 22.
Closing the 2016 calendar year, Brown makes its lone trip out of the Northeast when the Bears play at Virginia Commonwealth on Dec. 29 and at Morgan State on Dec. 31.
After hosting RIC for Education Day, Brown opens Ivy League play at Princeton (Jan. 13) and at Penn (Jan. 14). The Bears compete in their first Ivy home game against Yale on Jan. 20 before playing at the Bulldogs' home court on Jan. 27.
In the month of February, Brown hosts Ivy League weekends in three of the four weekends in the month. The Bears open the month with home games vs. Cornell (Feb. 3) and Columbia (Feb. 4) before playing at Harvard (Feb. 10) and at Dartmouth (Feb. 11). Bruno closes February with home tilts against Penn (Feb. 17), Princeton (Feb. 18), Dartmouth (Feb. 24), and Harvard (Feb. 25).
Brown plays at Columbia (Mar. 3) and at Cornell (Mar. 4) to close the regular season. If the Bears finish in the top four of the league standings, the team will qualify for the inaugural Ivy League Tournament from Mar. 11-12 at The Palestra in Philadelphia, Pa.
