
Women's Rugby Drops Season Opener Versus Dartmouth, 51-18

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's rugby team fell in its season and Ivy League opener, 51-18, to Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at Marvel Field.
The Big Green (2-1) were able to convert six tries in the first half to carry a 34-8 lead into halftime. Dartmouth started the game with a try and successful conversion.
Later on in the half, junior Beth Clifton (Attleboro, Mass.) kicked for points to pull the Bears within four (7-3). Dartmouth followed with a try and conversion for a 14-3 lead. Junior Hannah Yi (Los Angeles, Calif.) put the Bears back on the board to bring the score to 14-8 with a try. Dartmouth then went onto score four-straight tries to end the half.
In the second stanza, Brown's (0-1) defense held Dartmouth to just three tries for the rest of the contest. The Bears opened the half with a try in the 55th minute by sophomore Louise Leitao (Porto Alegre, Brazil) followed by a successful conversion to bring the score to 34-15. After Dartmouth answered with a try of its own, Clifton kicked for points to bring the game to 39-18. From there, Dartmouth would add two tries and a conversion for the final score of 51-18.
The Bears will continue Ivy League play and next face Harvard on Friday, September 23 under lights for a 7:30 p.m. game at Roberto A. Mignone Field.
