PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Over the summer of 2016, Brown women's lacrosse junior Madison White (Alexandria, Va.) interned for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Atlanta, Ga. as an Immigration Services Intern.
White, an International Relations concentration, worked with the Immigration Program Manager to assist clients who were processing and filing applications for lawful permanent residence, family reunification, affidavits of relationship, and other immigration petitions required to receive legal residency in the United States. The clients White interacted included: immigrants, refugees and other displaces persons. She would call clients to update them on the status of their application. With her study of Russian at Brown, White was able to specialize with the Eastern European clientele.
In addition to her primary role, White also was given the responsibility of leading a Citizenship Workshop, where she guided new clients who desired to apply through the initial Naturalization application.
The IRC is a global humanitarian aid, relief and development nongovernmental organization. The organization has aided operations such as: disaster response in Haiti, continued programing to address the humanitarian crisis in Congo, community rebuilding efforts in Afghanistan and Pakistan and advocacy and resettlement efforts of Syrian civilians uprooted by war.
White plans to continue to work with children, and pursue Immigration Law upon graduation.
