
Women's Water Polo Falls to Two Top-15 Teams, No. 13 Indiana, No. 15 Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown University women's water polo fell to a pair of top-15 teams in Collegiate Water Polo Association competition, falling to No. 13 Indiana, 10-5, and to No. 15 Princeton, 13-6, on Saturday at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
The Bears (9-22, 1-5 CWPA) pushed each of their nationally-ranked opponents in the first quarter of both games before dropping decisions to the Hoosiers (18-6, 3-1 CWPA) and the host Tigers (15-5, 2-2 CWPA).
Freshman McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) paced the Brown offense with four goals between the two contests while sophomore goalkeeper Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) totaled 25 saves on the day.
Next, Brown concludes play at Princeton vs. No. 6 Michigan tomorrow at 2:20 p.m.
Game 1: No. 13 Indiana 10, Brown 5
Miller scored a team-high three goals, and the Bears compiled 21 steals as a team, but No. 13 Indiana took a 10-5 win over Brown on Saturday morning.
Miller added four steals to her effort while sophomore Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) tallied one goal, one assist, and two steals, and freshman Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) chipped in a goal.
Senior Victoria Pierotti (Newport Beach, Calif.) led the Bears' defensive effort with seven steals while classmate Olivia Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) logged two assists, two steals, and four ejections drawn.
Junior Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) notched an assist and two steals, and senior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.) added an assist and two steals.
In the cage, Dakan turned aside 13 shots with a steal.
Miller put Brown up 1-0, and Heilman kept the Bears up 2-1 in the first quarter as the two sides stood tied 2-2 after one. Indiana netted all three of the second stanza's tallies to pull ahead 5-2 at the half.
After the Hoosiers went up 6-2 in the third quarter, Miller and McDougal netted back-to-back goals to cut Brown's deficit to 6-4 heading to the fourth.
In the final frame the Hoosiers extended their edge to 9-4 with a 3-0 run before Miller made it 9-5, and Indiana scored once more.

Game 2: No. 15 Princeton 13, Brown 6
Kolokotronis recorded a hat trick, but the host No. 15 Tigers used a 6-0 run between the second and third quarters to gain a 13-6 victory over Brown on Saturday afternoon.
Kolokotronis tacked on two steals, two ejections drawn, and an assist to her three-goal performance while Heilman posted two goals and an assist. Miller chipped in a goal, an assist, and two steals while Santiago registered two steals and an assist.
Dakan blocked 12 shots in net and came up with two steals.
Heilman and Kolokotronis each scored a goal in the first frame to keep the score tied at 2-2 after the opening quarter. Princeton posted all five of the second quarter's goals to grab a 7-2 edge at the break.
Kolokotronis scored in the third quarter to make it 8-3, but the Tigers responded with three goals to pull ahead 11-3 heading to the fourth.
Kolokotronis answered with back-to-back tallies, and Miller found the back of net to trim the Bears' margin to 11-6 prior to the hosts posting the last two markers of the contest.
