ALL-TIME VERSUS SACRED HEART
The Bears are a perfect 7-0 versus the Pioneers, having started play against them in 2006. Brown and Sacred Heart did not meet last season, but did so in 2014, where Brown came away with a 19-6 win at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Sacred Heart enters Saturday's match-up with a 3-4 overall record. The team has had some time off, as last weekend's game (March 26) against St. Mary's (Cal.) was cancelled. The Pioneers last played at Binghamton on March 20, losing 9-7. Sacred Heart has posted wins this season over La Salle (11-10, March 18), at UMass Lowell (17-5, March 6) and at Holy Cross (14-10, March 20). Caitlin Delaney leads the team in all three scoring categories, points (30), goals (21) and assists (9). Jenna Liljeberg and Alyssa Pearce share the lead for second on the squad in points, with 17. Likjeberg has recorded 16 goals with one assist while Pearce has registered nine goals and eight assists. In net, Paige Hammick has started five of the team's seven games this season, posting an 11.68 goals against average and a .370 save percentage for a 2-4 record. Carly Cavagnaro started Sacred Heart's other two games, and has an 8.85 GAA and .419 saver percentage to go with a 1-0 record.
LAST TIME OUT: BEARS FALL AT NO. 5/6 LOUISVILLE, 14-6
The Brown women's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 5/6 Louisville, 14-6, on Wednesday night at UofL Lacrosse Stadium. Junior Jillian Lee netted a career-high three goals for Brown in the contest.
The Bears started strong and got on the board first with a free position tally from Lee to take a 1-0 lead at 28:12. Senior Richael Walsh increased Brown's lead to 2-0 with a score at 21:12. Louisville registered its first goal of the game at 20:00 to pull within one. The Cardinals followed by adding two more to take a 3-2 lead. Senior Lauren Toy then tied it up 3-3 with a score at 2:59. Junior Mollie Lane assisted the goal. Jillian Balog pulled the Cardinals ahead (4-3) at 1:58 and Hannah Koloski made it 5-3 with 31 seconds left in the first half.
Louisville opened the second stanza with six-straight goals to take an 11-3 before Lee stopped its run with her second goal of the game to make it 11-4. The two teams traded goals as the Cardinals made it 12-4 before freshman Hafsa Moinuddin scored on a free position tally to bring the score to 12-5. Madison Hoover scored the next goal for the Cardinals at 6:46 to give them a 13-5 lead. Lee followed by completing the hat trick with a goal at 5:12. Louisville brought the game to its final (14-6) at 3:23 with a free position goal form Cortnee Daley.
Senior Victoria Holland (Huntington, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the contest for Brown while Brittany Read made five stops for the Cardinals. Louisville concluded the game with a 17-5 advantage in draw controls and a 30-15 lead in shots. The Cardinals were a perfect 12-12 in clears while Brown went 8-for-11. For free position shots, Brown went 2-for-3 while Louisville went 3-for-10.
TOY LEADS BEARS IN SCORING
For the second-straight year, senior Lauren Toy leads the Bears in goals (17) and points (24). This season she also leads the squad in assists (7). The tri-captain has recorded three hat tricks, her first, a four-goal performance in the team's first game, her second, a three goal and two assist performance against Bryant to capture Brown's seventh-straight Ocean State Cup, and her third, three goals at Yale. Toy has registered multiple points in six of the Bears' eight games. Toy is tied for ninth in the Ivy League in goals per game (1.89) and is 10th in the conference in points per game (2.67).
FRESHMEN STEPPING UP
Four freshmen have registered points so far on the season with Hafsa Moinuddin leading the way with 10 on five goals and five assists, which ties her for third on the team in overall scoring. Moinuddin scored her first points in an 11-10 win at Bryant on March 9, recording two goals and two assists. Zoe Verni has also contributed significantly with five points (4G, 1A). Verni also had a solid game against Bryant, scoring two goals. Grace Plassche and Sophie MacFarlane round out the rookie scoring with one goal apiece.
