
Women's Lacrosse to Battle Bryant for Ocean State Cup on Wednesday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will travel to nearby Smithfield, R.I. to square off against Bryant in the Seventh Annual Ocean State Cup on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

SEVENTH ANNUAL OCEAN STATE CUP TO BE PRESENTED
Wednesday will mark the seventh annual Ocean State Cup battle between Brown and Bryant, with the Bears claiming the previous six matchups, which includes a 12-8 win over the Bulldogs last season at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Senior Lauren Toy (3), sophomore Marissa Hudgins (2), senior Richael Walsh, and sophomore Emma Dahle scored in the contest.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Bryant enters Wednesday with a 2-2 record on the year, having dropped its last game, an 18-4 decision against No. 8/11 Stony Brook on Sunday, February 28. The Bulldogs' two wins on the season have come at Vermont (11-7) on Feb. 15 and at Holy Cross (8-7) on Feb. 23. Senior Nicole Britton leads the team in points with 10, on five goals and a squad-best five assists. Senior Lauren Descalzo holds the team-lead in goals with nine on the year. In net, sophomore Samantha Santeramo has started three of Bryant's four games, playing 151:42 minutes with 20 saves and a 10:68 goals against average for a 1-1 record. Sophomore Daja Andrews has appeared in three games, starting one in net, totaling 88:18 minutes of action with 11 saves and an 11.55 GAA for a 1-1 record.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bears were defeated 8-3 at No. 16/19 Penn on Saturday, March 5 at Franklin Field. Brown opened the game will a score by junior Jillian Lee at 22:43 with the assist coming from junior Kerianne Hunt to grab a 1-0 lead. Penn retaliated at 20:25 with an unassisted score from Nina Corcoran and then tacked on three more goals to head into the break with a 4-1 advantage. To open the second half, the Quakers offense continued to roll and notched two more goals for a 6-1 lead. The Bears got back on the board at 19:50 when senior Lauren Toy notched a tally at 19:50. Sophomore Rose Mangiarotti made it two straight for Brown and cut Penn's lead in half (6-3) at 9:22. Penn was able to seal its win with another goal from Corcoran (free position) at 6:25 and then an insurance score with 18 seconds left. Senior Victoria Holland recorded six saves for the Bears while Britt Brown made five stops for the Quakers. Brown held a slight advantage in ground balls on the day, 9-8 while Penn outshot the Bears, 20-12.
SIX BEARS RANK IN TOP-FIVE
Five Bears rank in the top-five in various statistical categories in the Ivy League. Senior Lauren Toy is tied for fifth in goals per game with 2.00. Sophomore Marissa Hudgins sits in second for caused turnovers with 1.75 while teammate Ali Kim is tied for fifth in the same category with 1.50. Goalies Victoria Holland and Mikaela Karlsson are tied for fourth (.545) and fifth (.538), respectively, in save percentage.
HOLLAND RANKS 10TH IN NCAA IN SAVE PERCENTAGE
Senior Victoria Holland currently ranks 10th in the NCAA in save percentage, at .545. So far this season, the netminder has tallied 24 saves in four games played (180 minutes). Holland also ranks 12th nationally in goals-against average (6.67).
SUCCESS IN SMITHFIELD
Brown has won all three contests at Bryant's Track and Turf Complex, averaging 17 goals per game dating back to the first meeting in 2010.
