
Women's Lacrosse Falls at No. 16/19 Penn, 8-3

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Brown women's lacrosse team was defeated, 8-3, at No. 16/19 Penn on Saturday at Franklin Field. The contest was the Ivy League opener for both teams. With the loss, the Bears move to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play, while Penn improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.
Brown opened the game will a score by junior Jillian Lee (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) at 22:43 with the assist coming from junior Kerianne Hunt (Alamo, Calif.) to grab a 1-0 lead. Penn retaliated at 20:25 with an unassisted score from Nina Corcoran and then tacked on three more goals to head into the break with a 4-1 advantage.
To open the second half, the Quakers offense continued to roll and notched two more goals for a 6-1 lead.
The Bears got back on the board at 19:50 when senior Lauren Toy (Kentfield, Calif.) notched a tally at 19:50. Sophomore Rose Mangiarotti (Locust Valley, N.Y.) made it two straight for Brown and cut Penn's lead in half (6-3) at 9:22.
Penn was able to seal its win with another goal from Corcoran (free position) at 6:25 and then an insurance score with 18 seconds left.
Senior Victoria Holland (Huntington, N.Y.) recorded six saves for the Bears while Britt Brown made five stops for the Quakers.
Brown held a slight advantage in ground balls on the day, 9-8 while Penn outshot the Bears, 20-12.
The Bears will travel to nearby Smithfield, R.I. for its next game at Bryant on Wednesday, March 9 for the Ocean State Cup at 7:00 p.m. The Bears are 6-0 all-time against the Bulldogs.
