
Women's Lacrosse Heads to No. 5/6 Louisville for Wednesday Match-Up

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team will play its first game of a five-game road stretch on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. against No. 5/6 Louisville. The match-up will be the first ever between the two teams.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Louisville enters Wednesday's game ranked fifth in the Inside Lacrosse Poll and sixth in the IWLCA Coaches Poll after opening the season 11-1 (3-1 ACC). Following a 16-5 loss to No. 15 Duke on March 12, the Cardinals have gone on to win four-straight. Louisville has defeated three ranked opponents this season in No. 14 Boston College (7-6, OT), No. 10 Northeastern (10-4) and No. 4 Notre Dame (10-9, OT). Over the weekend, the Cardinals posted a 15-9 win over Virginia Tech (March 26). Kaylin Morissette leads the team with 42 points on 29 goals and 13 assists. Hannah Koloski has a squad-best 32 goals while Kelli Gerding leads the team in assists with 17. Brittany Read has seen all of the action in net this year for the Cardinals, recording a 6.51 goals against average and a .546 save percentage. As a team, Louisville has the sixth-best scoring defense in the nation (6.58 GAA).
LAST TIME OUT: BEARS DEFEATED BY CORNELL, 10-2
Brown was defeated by Cornell, 10-2, in conference action on Saturday (March 26) at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Sophomore Rose Mangiarotti and freshman Hafsa Moinuddin registered goals for the Bears in the contest.Cornell (7-0, 3-0 Ivy League) opened the game with back-to-back goals at 26:46 (Olivia Mattyasovszky) and 26:25 (Emily Tripodi) before the Bears got on the board at 25:41 with an unassisted score from Mangiarotti, her 10th goal of the season, to bring Brown (4-4, 0-3 Ivy League) within one (2-1). The Big Red then responded with four-straight goals to carry a 6-1 advantage into the break.
The Big Red went on another scoring run with three-straight to begin the second half for a 9-1 lead, with Mattyasovszky completing a hat trick with the second goal in the scenario. Moinuddin halted the Cornell offense with her fourth goal of the year at 16:12. Cornell would tack on one more tally at 5:31 to bring the game to the final score of 10-2.
Senior Victoria Holland (Huntington, N.Y.) recorded a career-high 15 saves in net for the Bears while Renee Poullott made four stops for the Big Red.
Cornell concluded the game with a 33-10 shot advantage and the lead in draw controls, 11-3. The Big Red was 4-for-8 on free position shots while the Bears were 0-for-2. Cornell was an impressive 18-for-19 in clears and held Brown to 15-of-21.
BROWN TIED FOR 12TH IN THE NATION IN SCORING DEFENSE
As a team the Bears are tied for 12th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 7.13 goals per game. In net, senior Victoria Holland ranks 13th in the country in save percentage (.510) and 14th in goals against average (7.29).
TOY LEADS BEARS IN SCORING
For the second-straight year, senior Lauren Toy leads the Bears in goals (16) and points (23). This season she also leads the squad in assists (7). The tri-captain has recorded three hat tricks, her first, a four-goal performance in the team's first game, her second, a three goal and two assist performance against Bryant to capture Brown's seventh-straight Ocean State Cup, and her third, three goals at Yale. Toy has registered multiple points in six of the Bears' eight games. Toy is ninth in the Ivy League in points per game (2.57) and is 10th in the conference in goals per game (1.86).
FRESHMEN STEPPING UP
Four freshmen have registered points so far on the season with Hasfa Moinuddin leading the way with nine on four goals and five assists. Moinuddin scored her first points in an 11-10 win at Bryant on March 9, recording two goals and two assists. Zoe Verni has also contributed significantly with five points (4G, 1A). Verni also had a solid game against Bryant, scoring two goals. Grace Plassche and Sophie MacFarlane round out the rookie scoring with one goal apiece.
