PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown University wrestling junior Justin Staudenmayer has earned First Team All-Ivy at 157 lbs., and classmate Steven Galiardo has gained Second Team All-Ivy at 149 lbs., the Ivy League conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Staudenmayer (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) garnered his spot via a unanimous vote and took home All-Ivy honors for the second straight year, after earning Honorable Mention laurels in 2014-15. Galiardo (Chicago, Ill.) registered a spot on the All-Ivy teams for the first time in his career.
Both wrestlers will take part in the NCAA Championships from Thursday to Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., after each member of the duo earned a fifth-place finish at the 2016 EIWA Championships. Staudenmayer claimed an automatic bid to NCAAs before Galiardo captured an at-large berth.
In 2015-16, Staudenmayer has paced the Bears with 29 wins as part of a 29-8 overall record. He leads the team in wins, dual wins (13), technical falls (six), dual EIWA wins (10), and dual points (48). He placed first at the F&M Open, second at the Navy Classic, and fifth at the ESU Open. Last year at NCAAs, Staudenmayer won a bout in the wrestle-backs.
Galiardo placed at EIWAs for the second straight year after gaining an eighth-place finish in 2014-15. He has posted a 21-8 record on the season, ranking second on the team in wins. This season, he placed second at the Navy Classic and second at the ESU Open.
The pair will begin competition at the NCAA Championships on Thursday afternoon.
