
No. 54 Women's Tennis Places Fourth in ECAC Championship

HANOVER, N.H. – The No. 54 Brown women's tennis team claimed fourth place in the ECAC Championship, hosted by Dartmouth, which ran from Friday, February 5 to Sunday, February 7.
The tournament welcomed seven of the eight Ivy League schools in Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton and Yale.
On Friday the Bears, as the three-seed, defeated the sixth-seeded Cornell Big Red, 4-1. In first singles, junior Dayna Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.) fought back to win against No. 74 Marika Cusick, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Senior Hannah Camhi (Woodbury, N.Y.) was victorious in third singles by a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Sophomore Maddie Stearns (Short Hills, N.J.) took the fifth singles match, 6-1, 6-3 and senior Ammu Mandalap (Princeton Junction, N.J.) wrapped up the victory in the sixth singles spot with a 6-4, 7-6 showing. Cornell's only point in the dual came from their double wins.
The Bears were edged 4-3 by seventh-seeded Harvard in Saturday's action. The Crimson won the doubles point with victories in second and third doubles. Lord and Benotto won first doubles 6-2. Harvard slipped by and won singles for the overall win. Singles winners for Brown included Lord (first singles), 6-3, 6-4, sophomore Alyza Benotto (Los Angeles, Calif.) (second singles), 6-0, 7-6 (4) over No. 125 Nikki Kallenberg, and Stearns (fifth singles) 6-3, 6-1.
On Sunday, the Bears faced No. 32 Dartmouth (first seed in tournament) in the third place match, but fell by another slim margin of 4-3. Freshman Katie Ta (Mission Viejo, Calif.)/Camhi took the lone Brown win in doubles (second doubles), 6-4. For singles, Lord was again dominant in first singles and won her match, 6-2, 6-2. Benotto won her second-straight second singles match, 7-5, 6-1. Stearns posted the last singles victory in the fourth spot, with a 6-0, 6-4 win.
The Bears will next return home to the Pizzitola Sports Center and host Portland on Sunday, February 14 at 10:00 a.m.
