
Men's Swimming & Diving Finishes Seventh in Ivy League Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's swimming & diving team concluded the Ivy League Championship in seventh place, with 672 points, on Saturday at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. Princeton captured the title (1520.5) while Harvard placed second (1499). To highlight the final day for Brown, sophomore Riley Springman (Orlando, Fla.) posted a fourth-place finish in the 200 butterfly while senior Christopher Meyers (Milwaukee, Wis.) broke a school record in the 200 breaststroke. All in all, the Bears broke five school records in the championship.
"We are encouraged with the process of reestablishing a culture that will consistently be competitive in the league," said head coach Chris Ip. "We had some great leadership the entire meet and are eager to get back to work on next season's campaign."
Sophomore Grant Casey (North Attleboro, Mass.) opened the night with a 12th place finish in the 1650 freestyle, with one of the fastest times in Brown's history and a NCAA B-Cut time of 15:27.67.
Springman finished fourth in the A-Final of the 200 butterfly, with an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:45.68. In prelims, Springman swam the second fastest time in program history (1:44.93). Senior Alexander Treil (Needham, Mass.) also had a strong finish in the event, touching in at 9th in the B-Final with a time of 1:47.46, also a NCAA B-Cut time.
In diving, junior Jonathon Schlafer (Uniontown, Ohio) concluded three-meter dive in second with 326.70 points. Additionally, senior Sazzy Gourley (Charlotte, N.C.) placed 13th and sophomore Bryce Campanelli (Palmyra, Va.) finished 16th.
Sophomore Willy Lee (Palo Alto, Calif.) finished 14th (B-Final) in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall at 1:47.16, with junior Nicholas Johnston (Pleasanton, Calif.) behind him in 16th (1:47.62).
In the B-Final of the 200 breaststroke, Meyers placed 12 with a school record and NCAA B-Cut time of 1:58.50. Junior Connor Lohman (Prospect, Ky.) also placed well, finishing in 14th (1:59.80).
To close out the meet and championship, a team of junior Daniel Klotz (Berlin, Conn.), junior Jack Nee (Pepper Pike, Ohio), Brown and Treil finished seventh in the 400 freestyle with a time of 3:00.88.
