The Bears opened up the final frame with a pair of 3-pointers as Mehta and sophomore Janie White (Clarksville, Tenn.) each canned a trey to make the score 48-43 just 65 seconds into the quarter. A mid-range jumper from Alexander and two free throws from Musgrove capped a 14-5 streak that brought the Bears within 51-49 with 6:22 to play.
Brown remained within 53-51 with 5:28 to go off a bucket through contact in the paint from sophomore Kennedy Martin (Los Angeles, Calif.), and a jumper from Alexander in transition trimmed the deficit to 55-54 with 2:55 remaining. The Big Green connected on 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
In the second half, Brown held Dartmouth to 6-of-24 shooting (25.0 percent) including 2-of-13 shooting (15.4 percent) in the fourth quarter.
A pair of baskets from Alexander before a second-chance hoop from freshman Mary Butler (Bangor, Maine) kept Brown within 14-6 just under five minutes into the first quarter. A wing 3-pointer from senior Ellise Sharpe (Tipp City, Ohio) cut the Bears' deficit to 19-9 with 3:51 to play in the quarter, and a jumper from White helped Brown stay within 20-11 through one.
Alexander netted the Bears' first three points of the second stanza, and a Steeves layup on the inside made it 28-16 with 3:55 to go in the half. Mehta trimmed the margin to 30-19 off a corner 3-pointer before the hosts took a 34-21 advantage into the locker room.
