
Three Seniors Score as Field Hockey Defeats Yale, 4-3, in Season Finale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown field hockey team scored three goals in the second half to win its season finale against Yale, 4-3, in an Ivy League contest on Saturday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field. Senior Lucy Green (Providence, R.I.) scored the game tying and game-winning goal in the second half to lead the Bears.
The Bulldogs (7-10, 3-4 Ivy League) opened the game's scoring at 14:06 when Allie Carrigan put back a rebound close range for a 1-0 Yale lead. The visiting team increased its lead to 2-0 at 24:59 with a penalty-corner goal scored by Carol Middough.
Brown (8-9, 3-4 Ivy League) chipped away at Yale's lead when senior Jaclyn Torres (Andover, Mass.) collected the ball on a clear and went in for a breakaway score for her team-leading eighth goal of the season at 32:48.
Just before the end of the half, Yale went up 3-1 with is second goal off of a rebound, this one put in by Danee Fitzgerald at 33:53.
The Bulldogs outshot the Bears 11-7 in the opening stanza. Penalty corners were even for both teams at 4-4.
In the second half, Brown pulled within one (3-2) at 39:56 when senior Katarina Angus (West Vancouver, British Columbia) connected on a penalty-corner goal for her fourth tally of the season. Senior Leah Zavalick (Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshman Ali Dunning (Amersham, England) teamed up for the assists.
Green knotted the game at 3-3 when she scored her sixth goal of the season at 48:30, after getting Dunning's rebound and beating the keeper.
The Bears took their first lead of the day at 61:56 when Green registered her second goal of the contest with the assist going to sophomore Ellie Seid (Larchmont, N.Y.). Seid fed Green with a pass in front from the left side. Brown's defense fought off a Yale penalty corner in the closing minutes to seal the win.
Brown took the offensive lead in the second half, outshooting Yale, 11-3. The Bears also held a slight edge penalty corner edge at 3-2.
Sophomore Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) made a total of seven saves in the game, including six in the first half, while Emilie Katz made 10 stops in net for Yale.
Overall, the Bears outshot the Bulldogs, 18-14 and had the lead in penalty corners, 7-6.
