
Field Hockey Defeated at Lehigh, 4-2

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Brown field hockey team was defeated at Lehigh, 4-2, in a non-conference game at the Ulrich Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Ellie Seid (Larchmont, N.Y.) and senior Lucy Green (Providence, R.I.) scored goals for Brown.
The Mountain Hawks (6-11) were the first team to strike in the contest, and did so at 8:11 when Lauren Dice connected on a penalty-strike goal.
Brown (7-9) evened the score at 10:10 when Seid hit the ball out of midair for her fourth goal of the season. Freshman Gina Openshaw (Annapolis, Md.) assisted the score.
Lehigh took a 2-1 advantage at 17:49 when Gabby Tofig tallied a goal following a penalty corner by receiving a pass from Lindsay Alvarez. The Mountain Hawks went up 3-1 at 20:09 when Tofig registered her second goal of the contest.
The Mountain Hawks held a 15-3 advantage in shots in the opening stanza and a 8-1 lead in penalty corners.
In the second half, Brown narrowed its deficit (3-2) at 51:52 with a goal following a penalty corner by Green, her fifth score of the season. Sophomore Maddie Ayles (Westwood, Mass.) tallied the helper on the play.
The Mountain Hawks sealed their win when Tofig recorded a hat trick, giving Lehigh a two-goal lead (4-2) at 59:53. Kassidy Green contributed the assist on a quick pass to Tofig in front of the net.
Both teams were even in shots (5) and penalty corners (2) in the second half.
Sophomore Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) made nine saves in net for the Bears while Paige Innarella made four stops for the Mountain Hawks.
With an assist on the day, Openshaw has registered a point in four-straight games (2G, 2A).
The Bears return home to Goldberger Family Field for their final game of the 2016 regular season and Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 5 against Yale. The contest will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the senior ceremony held prior.
