The Brown women's swimming & diving team defeated Cornell, 156-143, on Saturday at Teagle Hall.
"Today was about gritty racing and great diving," said head coach Kate Kovenock. "The highlight of the meet for us was the last relay - it's always fun to cap off a win with a pool record in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
In 3m dive, junior Molly Gelb (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and senior Rachel Speakman (Hudson, Ohio) placed one-two with scores of 239.48 and 237.53, respectively. Golb also captured 1m boards (251.77).
A relay team of sophomore Jenna Zagoren (Cherry Hill, N.J.), sophomore Ally Donahue (Tampa, Fla.), junior Caroline Vexler (Moreland Hills, Ohio) and senior Reia Tong (Bethesda, Md.) finished first in the 200-yard medley relay with a mark of 1:45.17, just narrowly out touching Cornell who finished 1:45.23 for second.
Donahue (1:04.03) and junior Katie Roach (Colorado Springs, Colo.) (1:05.57) grabbed the top two spots in the 100-yard breaststroke. Roach turned in a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.55).
Senior Gina Matsumoto (Farmington Hills, Mich.) and Vexler also posted a first and second place finish with times of 2:04.96 and 2:05.09, respectively, in the 200-yard butterfly.
Tong was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (23.52) while sophomore Aja Grande (Honolulu, Hawaii) was right behind in second with a time of 23.96. Tong also won the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 51.10. Grande (56.71) placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with Vexler in second (56.75).
To cap of the meet, and set a pool record, a squad of Grande, freshman Maddie Salesky (San Rafael, Calif.), sophomore Sarah Cronin (Westfield, N.J.) and Tong finished in first in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:25.42.
The Bears will next compete in the Ivy League Championships, running from Thursday, Feb. 18 through Saturday, Feb. 20 at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool. Prelims will begin at 11:00 a.m. and finals will start at 6:00 p.m.
