ITHACA, N.Y. – The Brown men's swimming & diving team was defeated by Cornell, 177-123, on Saturday at Teagle Hall.
"The score of the meet was not indicative of how close this meet actually was," said head coach Chris Ip. "We just have a few weak events that we were not be able to address in a dual meet situation. All preparation will now be for the Ivy Championships at our home pool in February."
Sophomore Grant Casey (North Attleboro, Mass.) won two events both the 1000-yard free style (9:32.62) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.08) in convincing fashion, leading from start to finish. Senior Cory Mayfield (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) finished third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.23).
Junior Jonathon Schlafer (Uniontown, Ohio) also won two events, his in 1m and 3m boards with scores of 304.73 and 325.27, respectively. Sophomore Bryce Campanelli (Palmyra, Va.) and senior Sazzy Gourley (Charlotte, N.C.) joined Schlafer for a 1-2-3 in the 3m posting scores of 280.57 and 277.50 themselves.
Sophomore Riley Springman (Orlando, Fla.) was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly (1:49,43) with senior Alex Treil (Needham, Mass.) coming in second (1:52.59) in an important event for the team. Springman finished second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:52.89, just narrowly out of first place.
