Women's Basketball Falls at Ivy Preseason Favorite Princeton, 72-53

PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Jordin Alexander, junior Rebecca Musgrove, and sophomore Janie White each scored in double figures, but Brown University women's basketball fell at Princeton University, 72-53, on Friday night at Jadwin Gymnasium.
The Ivy League preseason favorite Tigers (12-4, 1-1 Ivy) built a 39-19 lead at halftime on the way to their win over the visiting Bears (12-5, 0-3 Ivy).
Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y.) posted a team-high 16 points, a season-high five steals, and five rebounds while Alexander (Fishers, Ind.) tallied 14 points, four steals, and three assists. White (Clarksville, Tenn.) added 12 points and four boards.
Alexander and Musgrove finished in double figures for the 15th and 11th times this season respectively. Freshman guard Shayna Mehta (San Francisco, Calif.) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Tigers opened the game with a 13-0 lead in the first three minutes before Musgrove netted a 3-pointer at the 5:55 mark. Back-to-back mid-range jumpers from Alexander and a steal and score from Musgrove capped a 9-2 run for the Bears that cut their deficit to 15-9 with 3:30 to play in the first. Princeton took a 21-9 edge after the first quarter.
A Musgrove jumper, a layup from sophomore Kennedy Martin (Los Angeles, Calif.), and a White jump shot kept Brown within 10 points at 25-15 with 6:55 to go in the second quarter. The hosts then closed the half on a 14-4 run, bringing a 39-19 advantage into the locker room.
White hit a pair of 3-pointers and Alexander tallied four straight points to bring the Bears within 49-31 with 4:48 remaining in the third period. Princeton then carried a 53-33 advantage into the final frame.
The two teams traded baskets through much of the fourth quarter with Musgrove scoring nine points in the final 10 minutes.
For Princeton, Michelle Miller scored a game-high 21 points, and Annie Tarakchian snared a game-best 17 rebounds.
Next, Brown plays at Penn at The Palestra tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
