CANTON, N.Y. – Nolan Gluchowski recorded three points to power St. Lawrence to a 6-2 victory over the Brown men's hockey team in Friday night's ECAC matchup at Appleton Arena.
SLU snapped a five-game skid to improve to 11-10-2 overall and 5-5-1 in the ECAC. Brown dropped to 4-11-3 and 2-8-2 in the conference.
Rookie Tommy Marchin (Algonac, Mich.) and sophomore Tyler Bird (Andover, Mass.) scored for the Bears. Tim Ernst (Pickering, Ontario) allowed three goals and made 13 saves in the loss, before giving way to Tyler Steel (Vernon, British Columbia), who posted 12 stops.
St. Lawrence raced out to a quick start with a pair of power-play goals in the opening six minutes.
Tommy Thompson opened up the scoring at 3:07 when he followed the rebound from Gavin Bayreuther's point shot and jammed the puck past the goal line. Despite a pair of saves by Ernst, Alex Hagen scored at 5:55 on a similar play, once again on a rebound in front of the crease for the two-goal advantage.
SLU carried over its momentum into the second period with a goal by Christian Horn at 5:16. His shot deflected off the left post and into the back of the net for the three-goal lead. Gluchowski tacked on another goal less than two minutes later to make it 4-0.
Marchin put the Bears on the board at 15:06 with his 10th goal of the season. After Brown was set up on the power play, Mark Naclerio (Milford, Mass.) sent a pass from behind the net to the slot, where Marchin beat Hayton high stick side. Nick Lappin (Geneva, Ill.) also picked up an assist on the play.
Brown outshot the Saints, 11-9, in the second.
The two teams traded goals with a 17-second span early in the third period. After Sullivan scored at 14:30, Bird rifled a shot from the high slot to keep the Bears within three goals.
Gluchowski notched his second goal of the game in the final minute to seal the victory.
SLU held a slight advantage in shots, 31-30.
Brown returns to action tomorrow when the Bears visit Clarkson at 7 p.m.
