POTSDAM, N.Y. – Clarkson had five different scorers and Greg Lewis stopped all 19 shots he faced to lead the Golden Knights past the Brown men's hockey team, 5-0, in Saturday's ECAC contest at Cheel Arena.
Clarkson improved to 11-10-3 overall and 3-6-3 in the ECAC, while the Bears dropped to 4-12-3 and 2-9-2 in the conference.
Sophomore Connor Maher (Marshfield, Mass.) made 23 saves in his first career start in net. Max Willman (Barnstable, Mass.) and Josh McArdle (Roscoe, Ill.) paced the team with three shots apiece.
Clarkson struck first with a pair of goals within a 19-second span midway through the opening stanza. Kelly Summers capped a series of shots and lengthy zone time by the Golden Knights at 9:36, before Paul Geiger added another tally 19 seconds later, when A.J. Fossen took advantage of a turnover in the neutral zone and set up the 2-on-1 rush for the two-goal lead.
Clarkson held a 13-8 shot advantage in the opening period.
After neither team was able to generate much offense to start the second period, a pair of penalties opened up the ice with 4-on-4 play, but Lewis was able to stop consecutive shots from Brandon Pfeil (West Vancouver, British Columbia) and Nick Lappin (Geneva, Ill.) to preserve the lead.
Brett Gervais gave the Golden Knights a three-goal lead at 15:42 when he finished a feed from Jordan Boucher and hit the top left of the net.
The Golden Knights continued to attack in the third period, starting at 4:34 as Jeff DiNallo skated through the right circle and toward the back of the net, but quickly slid a pass in front of the crease to Ben Dalpe for the easy finish.
Perry D'Arrisso notched the fifth and final goal at 11:36 to seal the victory.
Clarkson went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Brown was 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
Brown will host RPI (1/29) and Union (1/30) next weekend. Tickets for all Brown men's hockey games can be purchased online, calling the Brown Athletics Ticket Office at (401) 863-2773, or walking up to the Box Office located in the Pizzitola Sports Center, open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
