
Men's Tennis Concludes Play at Ivy Plus Tournament

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown men's tennis team kicked off the 2015 fall season at the Ivy Plus Tournament at Princeton this past weekend (Sept. 18-20).
Competing with the Bears in the tournament were student-athletes from Bucknell, Buffalo, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Indiana, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, NJIT, Notre Dame, Old Dominion, Penn, Penn State, Princeton, St. John's, Tennessee, Tulsa, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, and Yale.
Sunday's final featured junior Gregory Garcia (Poway, Calif.) falling to Victor Pham of Columbia, 6-3 and 6-1, in flight two singles play.
Freshman Mladen Mitak (Zagreb, Croatia) reached the quarterfinals in flight four singles, but fell to eventual flight winner, Andy Zhou of Harvard, 6-0 and 6-2. Sophomore Jack Haworth (Corby, England) also reached the quarterfinals (flight six singles) and battled tough with Zach Lieb, but was defeated, 6-2, 4-6 and 6-1. Freshman Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) reached the quarterfinals as well, and was defeated by Alex Hagermoser of Yale, 6-1 and 6-1 in flight seven singles.
In flight five singles, sophomore Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) fell in the third place match to Elliott Yee of Indiana, 6-3 and 6-1.
Sophomore Anthony Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) reached the quarterfinals in flight eight singles, and advanced to a consolation match, coming from behind to defeated Christian Lutschaunig of Penn. State, 3-6, 6-4 and 10-1.
The Bears return to action at the Dartmouth Invitational, running from Friday, October 9 to Sunday, October 11.
