Last Weekend
Brown kicked off the season with a 2-0 victory at Quinnipiac, the 2014 MAAC regular season champions, last weekend. After a scoreless first half, rookie Matthew Chow and senior Tariq Akeel both scored within a 27-second span to seal the shutout. Junior keeper Erik Hanson turned away all three shots he faced to capture the win, while the team outshot the Bobcats, 18-7.
Scouting the Friars
Providence College heads into the weekend at 3-0-1 following a 1-0 victory over Rhode Island on Monday and is currently ranked No. 18 in the latest NSCAA poll. In 2014, The Friars captured their first ever BIG EAST Championship title and also advanced to the NCAA College Cup semifinal for the first time in history. Mac Steeves, last year's leading scorer, leads the way with four goals in four games this season. Ben Segulic has started all four games in net and has allowed just two goals with 10 saves.
Last Time Out Against PC
Brown fell to PC, 3-2, at home in last year's meeting between the two teams. Daniel Neustadter scored a golden goal in the 94th minute for Providence to lead the Friars to the overtime win. Jack Gorab and Nate Pomeroy both scored for the Bears.
Scouting the Crusaders
Holy Cross enters the weekend at 0-1-2 and most recently fell to Dartmouth, 1-0, after a pair of ties against Hartford and Providence. The Crusaders will face Sacred Heart on Friday before heading to Stevenson Field on Sunday. Joey DeVivo scored the lone goal for the Crusaders, while Kevin Wright has started all three games in net with two goals allowed and one shutout. Holy Cross went 5-9-3 last season.
Last Time Against Holy Cross
Brown will face off against Holy Cross for the first time since the 2011 season, when the Bears won, 1-0, on the road.
Akeel Named Ivy League Co-Player of the Week
Senior Tariq Akeel was named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 7, along with Harvard's Oliver White. Akeel posted a three-point performance to lead the Bears to a 2-0 shutout victory at Quinnipiac, the reigning MAAC regular season champion, in the season opener on Friday. After assisting on the first goal, he finished on a cross for his first goal of the season just 27 seconds later to seal the win.
