PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After suffering its second Ivy League defeat this season, the Brown women's lacrosse team looks to bounce back against Cornell on Saturday, before paying a visit to Colgate on Tuesday.
LAST TIME OUT
A staunch defensive effort and Kerri Fleishhacker's four points helped pace the Yale Bulldogs to a 8-3 win over the Brown women's lacrosse team on a cold, rainy afternoon at Stevenson Field on Saturday.
The Bears fall to 4-2 overall and drop to 0-2 in Ivy League play, while the Bulldogs improve to 4-3 (1-1 Ivy).
Kellie Roddy (Poway, Calif.) and Erin Mullins each made eight saves amidst a constant rainfall at Stevenson Field.
DIBONA CLEANING UP THE DRAWS
Senior co-captain Alyssa DiBona (Media, Pa.) posted a career high with seven draw controls against Holy Cross on March 10, as the Bears held an 18-4 advantage over the Crusaders in that category. She also recorded corralled two draws against Yale last Saturday. DiBona ranks second in the Ivy League and 27th nationally with 4.00 draw controls per game.
TOY STORY
Junior Lauren Toy paces the Brown offense with 15 points on 11 goals and four assists over six games. Toy has netted hat tricks in three of six contests in 2015.
DAHLE GETS ON THE BOARD
Junior middy Rebecca Dahle tallied her first goal of the season on a free position strike against Yale last Saturday. Dahle also picked up her first two ground balls of the season against the Bulldogs.
Rookies Yuna Hur and Marissa Hudgins boast solid starts to their collegiate careers, each tallying nine goals thus far in 2015, good for second on the team.
TOUGH TO SCORE ON
A young Bears defense has had a strong start in 2015, surrendering just 7.67 goals per game and posting the eighth-best save percentage in the nation (.516).
ROWDY RODDY
Goaltender Kellie Roddy ranks second overall in the Ivy League and 14th nationally with a .505 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY – CORNELL
Brown and Cornell will meet for the 34th time on Saturday, as the Big Red hold a 33-20 edge, including a current 15-game winning streak over the Bears dating back to 2000. Lindsey Toppe's goal with 17 seconds remaining in overtime propelled the Big Red to an 11-10 win over the Bears in Providence last season.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
The Bears will look to contain a high octane Cornell attack that ranks first in the Ivy League and 12th nationally with 14.57 goals per game. The Big Red also tops the league in ground balls (16.57) and draw controls (14.14) per game. Cornell saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday with a 14-8 setback to #5 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome.
Amie Dickson paces the Big Red with 32 points (17g, 15a), while Catherine Ellis (18 goals) and Lindsey Toppe (17 goals) will give the Bears' defense all they can handle.
