PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's basketball captain Sophie Bikofsky was named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District team in an announcement made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Bikofsky joins Rafael Maia from the men's basketball team as Brown's Academic All-District selections.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
All-District selections advance to the Academic All-American Team ballot, where first, second, and third team selections will be announced later this month.
Bikofsky (Newton, Mass.) is Brown's third All-District selection in the previous four seasons, joining former teammates Hannah Passafuime '12 and Lauren Clarke '14.
The community health concentrator ranks ninth in the nation with a .906 free throw percentage and sits four treys away from breaking the school record for career three-point field goals made. The senior is also the reigning NCAA three-point field goal percentage champion after posting a .486 percentage from long distance in 2013-14.
Bikofsky and the Bears hit the road this weekend for crucial Ivy matchups against Harvard and Dartmouth. Both games can be seen live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
