PRINCETON, N.J. – Jordin Alexander (Fishers, Ind.) deposited a game high 25 points and Sophie Bikofsky (Newton, Mass.) scored her 1,000th career point, but the No. 14 Princeton Tigers remained undefeated with a 79-67 win over the Brown women's basketball team on Saturday night.
Brown drops to 10-16 (4-8 Ivy), while the Tigers improve their unblemished record to 27-0 (11-0 Ivy) with the win. The 67 points scored by the Bears were the most scored by a Princeton opponent all season.
Bikofsky was the 18th member of the program to achieve the 1,000-point milestone and she becomes the 17th all-time leading scorer with 1,006 points. The senior captain finished with eight rebounds and a career high five assists.
Alexander finished the night 10-of-18 from the field and posted her eighth effort of 20-plus points this season.
The Bears also got a strong effort from Rebecca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y.), as the sophomore point guard chipped in with 11 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
Brown held the advantage in turnovers, 18-9, but could not find their range from behind the arc, connecting on just 2-of-17 attempts.
Alexander tallied 11 points in the first half, including an and-one to get the Bears off and running at 3-0. The hustling Brown defense forced 10 first half turnovers from the Tigers, as they nearly erased a 24-15 deficit on the strength of an 11-4 run. Ellise Sharpe highlighted the run with a strip of Michelle Miller and a layup to bring Brown back within five at 24-19.
Bikofsky sank her 1,000th point from the free throw line and received a nice ovation from the crowd of 2,097 at Jadwin Gym. The senior captain netted six points in the first half and hauled in six rebounds, despite the Bears just shooting 31.4-percent from the field and going 0-of-12 from long distance.
Miller gave the Bears fits in the first half with 13 points, while Wellesley, Massachusetts native Blake Dietrick added six points for the Tigers. Bikofsky sank two from the charity stripe with four seconds remaining, as the Bears trailed 35-30 entering the locker room.
A 7-0 run propelled the Tigers to a 42-30 lead right out of the chute in the second half. Alex Wheatley tallied nine of her 13 points in the second half, as the Tigers opened their cushion to as many as 16 points. Undaunted, the Bears would not give up, putting forth a gritty effort down the stretch to cut the Princeton lead to eight with 1:23 to play.
Miller led the Tigers with 20 points, while Dietrick added 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
Up next, Brown closes out the 2014-15 campaign with home contests versus Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend.
