NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Eight members of the Brown women's lacrosse team found the back of the net during the Bears' 13-6 win over Iona on Friday afternoon at Mazzella Field.

The Bears improve to 2-0 with the win, while the Gaels drop to 2-2.

Junior midfielder Lauren Toy (Kentfield, Calif.) tallied four points, including her second hat trick in as many games, while Janie Gion (Northfield, Ill.), Marissa Hudgins (Syracuse, N.Y.), and Richael Walsh (Westwood, Mass.) each added a pair of goals for the Bears.

Kellie Roddy (Poway, Calif.) improved to 2-0 this season, turning away five shots, while her Iona counterpart, Blaire Nathanson, made seven stops to fall to 2-2.

After Walsh and Hudgins staked the Bears to an early 2-0 lead, senior Abby Bunting (Wellesley, Mass.) netted her first of the season on an assist by Julia Carrellas (Middletown, R.I.) to give Brown a three-goal cushion with 16:13 to play in the half. The trio of Toy, Hudgins, and Walsh each struck again before the half ended to give the Bears a 6-2 lead after 30 minutes of action.

The teams exchanged goals at the beginning of the second half, prior to a 4-0 Brown run, highlighted by Toy's sixth goal of the season, Gion's pair, and freshman Bri Irons' (Wallingford, Pa.) first career marker that put the Bears up 11-3 with 14:31 to play.

Goals by the Iona's Erin Pugh and Meghan Testoni accounted for the Gaels' scoring in the second half, but freshman Yuna Hur (Stony Brook, N.Y.) and sophomore Sarah Peters (Weston, Mass.) chipped in with goals late to secure Brown's second straight win to open the season.

The Bears outshot the host Gaels, 22-20, but were outchanced in free position attempts, 7-0. Sophomore Riley Christopher (Bethesda, Md.) added her first assist of the season on Peters' goal with 4:59 to play.

Up next, the Bears will conclude their quick two-game road trip at Central Connecticut State on Sunday.
