
Columbia Takes Down Brown, 76-59

Providence, R.I. - Junior guard Maodo Lo, the Ivy League scoring leader, tossed in 24 of his career high 35 points in the opening half on a dazzling display of treys, lay-ups and pull-up jump shots to lead Columbia to a 76-59 Ivy League win over Brown at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Columbia improves to 12-11 overall, 4-5 in the Ivy League, while Brown drops to 11-15 overall, 2-7 in Ivy play.
Lo's 35 points were the most scored by any player in the Ivy League this season. He connected on 14-of-20 field goals, handed out a season high five assists and made four steals. His 14 field goals are a Pizzitola Sports Center record.
Jeff Colby (13 points) also scored in double figures for the Lions.
The Bears were paced by junior forward Cedric Kuakumensah, who scored 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, grabbed six rebounds and added three blocked shots. Kuakumensah moved into second place in all-time Ivy League blocked shots, now with 225 career blocks.
Senior forward Rafael Maia had 14 points and six rebound for the Bears, while sophomore guard Steven Spieth also scored in double figures with 10 points, while also grabbing six rebounds. Bears' senior Dockery Walker led both teams with eight rebounds.
Columbia led throughout the opening 20 minutes and utilized a 10-0 run and lead by 15 points, 31-16, with 5:18 remaining following a fast break lay-up by Luke Petrasek. Lo had back-to-back three-point plays in the spurt.
The Lions' biggest lead came with just 55-seconds remaining, 48-26, when Petrasek connected on a trey.
Lo turned in a dominating performance in the first half, scoring 24 points on sizzling 10-of-11 shooting from the field.
Trailing 48-28 at the half, Brown opened with a 7-2 run to trail, 50-35, with Maia scoring five of the seven points for the Bears.
But the Lions quickly asserted themselves and went back up by 18 points, 53-35, on a Chris McCumber trey at the 17:22 mark to take control of the game once again.
A late Brown run cut Columbia's lead to 73-59 with 2:05 remaining on a lay-up by Kuakumensah.
The Bears return to the hardwood tomorrow (Saturday) evening at home against Cornell. Tip off is 6pm at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
