Women's Hockey Travels to RIT for Non-Conference Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team will embark on a seven-game road stretch, starting with a weekend series at RIT on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 21 at 3:00 p.m.

SCOUTING RIT
RIT recently dropped a contest against Syracuse on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 5-1. The Tigers previously claimed two wins over ECAC opponent Union, 3-1 and 2-1, earlier in the season. Carly Payerl leads the team in points with a team-high four goals and four assists. Taylor Thurston has registered a team-best six assists on the year. Three goalies have seen action this season for the Tigers, with Brooke Stoddart playing in eight games. Stoddart has recorded a 3.59 goals against average and a .883 save percentage.
BROWN VS. RIT LAST SEASON
The Bears opened up the 2014-15 season with a series against the Tigers, falling 4-1 in game one, and 5-2 in game two. Junior Erin Conway scored in the first game while sophomore Sam Donovan scored her first-career goal in the second.
LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Sam Donovan netted a hat trick to lead the Bears past Sacred Heart, 6-1, to close out its five game home stand at Meehan Auditorium on Saturday, Nov. 14. Eight different Bears recorded a point in the game. Junior Monica Elvin and sophomore Julianne Landry split time in net for the Bears, as Elvin stopped 11 shots while Landry turned away nine. Brown recorded a season-high 49 shots compared to Sacred Heart's 21. The Bears also registered their first power-play goal of the year, going 1-for-7 on the power play, while the team's penalty kill warded off all six penalties.

The Bears will next play Providence in the 21st Annual Mayor's Cup on Saturday, Nov. 28 at Schneider Arena for a 1:00 p.m. game.
DONOVAN NAMED ECAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Sam Donovan was named ECAC Player of the Week after registering a hat trick in the Brown's lone game over the weekend, a 6-1 win over Sacred Heart, the conference announced on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Donovan's hat trick was Brown's first hat trick since January 24, 2012 and a career-high output for the center. In the game, Donovan had a team-high +4 rating.
WHEN I SCORE YOU SCORE
For the second time in their careers, the Swanstrom twins registered a point in the same game, when on Saturday, Nov. 14 against Sacred Heart, both sisters scored. The twins previously scored in the same game during their rookie season against Union, in a 3-3 tie, when Katie scored and Samantha had an assist. Both of Katie's career points (goals) have come when Samantha registers a point.
MOST GOALS SINCE THE 2012-13 SEASON
The Bears scored a season-high six goals to defeat Sacred Heart, 6-1, on Saturday, Nov. 14. It was the first time Brown has scored six goals since the team beat Maine, 6-5, on January 6, 2013.
FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS
Brown's 49 shots on goal against Sacred Heart on Saturday, Nov. 14 was the most shots the Bears have recorded since Feb. 24, 2012 when the team registered 45 shots in a 4-1 win versusYale. The last time the Bears recorded more than 49 shots on goal was at Sacred Heart on Dec. 7, 2011 when the squad had 54. The most shots on goal in the history of the program is 104, set by the 1998-99 team.
TOP OF THEIR GAME
Freshman Bridget Carey, sophomore Sam Donovan and junior Maddie Woo have been together on the top line in five of Brown's seven games and have produced 11 of the team's 19 points. Donovan leads the Bears in goals (4) while Woo has a team-best in assists (3).
DEFENSIVE STANCE
The Brown defense allowed a season-low 21 shots versus Sacred Heart on Saturday, Nov. 14. It was the least amount of shots the Bears have allowed since a 3-3 tie against Union on Feb. 13, 2015, when the team also allowed just 21.
HATS OFF
Sophomore Sam Donovan netted a hat trick in Brown's 6-1 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday, Nov. 14. Her three goals were career-high output and the first Brown hat trick since January 24, 2012 (Sarah Robson '15).
THREE TIMES THE HELP
Junior Maddie Woo recorded three assists, all primary, in a 6-1 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday, Nov. 14. Woo got things started when she set Donovan up with her first of three goals in the game. The right wing then assisted freshman Bridget Carey's goal to increase Brown's lead at the time to 4-1. Woo's last assist was Donovan's second goal of the game.
CAREY LEADS ROOKIES
Freshman forward Bridget Carey leads all freshmen and is tied for second on the team in points on the season with three (2G, 1A). Carey scored her first collegiate goal on Sunday, Oct. 24 at Maine. Her first-career assist took place on Saturday, Nov. 7 against No. 9/9 Harvard, recording the primary helper. Her second-career goal was the fourth goal in a 6-1 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday, Nov. 14.
UNDERCLASSMAN SCORING
Brown's freshmen and sophomores make up 74% of the team's scoring, including 100% of the Bears' goals and 55% of the team's assists.
CAREER FIRSTS
Freshmen Leah Olson, Cara Najjar and Jenna Hewitt-Kenda recorded their first collegiate points in a 6-1 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday, Nov. 14. All three rookies collected assists in the game, with Olson recording two. Olson and Najjar teamed up for the assists on the game-winning goal while Hewitt-Kenda assisted Donovan's third goal that completed her hat trick.
LANDRY STOPS A CAREER-HIGH 41 SHOTS
Sophomore netminder Julianne Landry recorded a career-high 41 saves against No. 9/9 Harvard on Saturday, Nov. 7. Landry upped her saves in each period, starting with 11 in the opening stanza, to 12 in the second period and then 16 in the third. Her previous career-high was 38 versus Dartmouth on January 3, 2015 in her rookie campaign. The last Brown goalie to record 40 or more saves was junior Monica Elvin, who registered 47 saves at Yale in a 3-2 overtime win on January 23, 2015.
BLOCK PARTY
As a team the Bears have blocked a total of 118 shots on the season. Senior Kelly Micholson has recorded a team-best 14 on the year.
MAYOR'S CUP
Brown and Providence will play in the 21st installment of the Mayor's Cup on Saturday, Nov. 28 at Schneider Arena, starting at 1:00 p.m. The series between the inter-city rivals began in 1996 with Brown coming away victorious, 4-3, on January 24. The Bears lead the all-time series, 10-7-3. In the last 10 overall meetings, Providence holds a slight edge with a record of 5-4-1, however, in those last 10 meetings, the Bears hold a 3-2-0 advantage over the Friars when playing at Schneider Arena. Brown captured the 20th Mayor's Cup on Nov. 28, 2014 at Meehan Auditorium in a 2-1 win. Monica Elvin made 33 saves while Sam Donovan recorded the game-tying goal.
