HANOVER, N.H. – A five-goal first half, including a pair of goals of Ali Savage, powered the Dartmouth Big Green to a 6-1 victory over the Brown field hockey team on Saturday afternoon at Chase Field. Brown drops to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in Ivy play while Dartmouth notches its first win of the season to improve to 1-5 (1-1 Ivy).

"This was a tough loss against a good team," said Head Coach Jill Reeve. "Dartmouth finished on their scoring chances and unfortunately we fell short today."

The Bears, despite registering 12 shots on goal, couldn't solve the duo of Ellen Meyer and Paige Duffy as the pair combined for nine saves. Meyer claimed eight of the saves to improve to 1-5 overall while Brown goalkeeper Shannon McSweeney (Boxborough, Mass.) made five saves in the loss to fall to 4-2.

Goals by Savage, Donald, and Anna Rowthorn-Apel in the opening eight minutes of play put the Bears into an insurmountable hole early on. Sophomore Katarina Angus (West Vancouver, B.C.) led the way with three shots on goal, while Lucy Green (Providence, R.I.), Jaclyn Torres (Andover, Mass.), and Hannah Rogers (Los Altos, Calif.) each recorded a pair of shots.

The Big Green struck for two more goals in the first half before the Bears finally got on the board with just under 90 seconds to play on Torres' second tally of the season, beating Meyer low to the left side.

Brown uncorked 15 shots at the Dartmouth net in the second half, including seven on target but couldn't cash in as Meyer, Duffy, and a pair of defensive saves stymied the Bears. The Big Green outshot Brown by a 23-22 margin and held a 10-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Brown will return to action next weekend with home doubleheader action against Harvard (Sat.) and Siena (Sun.).
