
Women's Water Polo Dropped at No. 6 UC Irvine, 17-7

IRVINE, Calif. – Senior Kate Woods (La Jolla, Calif.) scored twice to lead a crew of six Bears who found the back of the net but the Brown women's water polo team dropped a 17-7 decision against No. 6 UC Irvine at the Anteater Aquatics Complex on Sunday. Brown now stands at 8-10 on the season, while the Anteaters improve to 16-6 overall.
The Bears stayed close in the first quarter with goals from junior Liz Rosen (San Anselm, Calif.) and senior Sarah Presant (Poway, Calif.) leaving Brown within a marker following eight minutes of competition.
However, UC-Irvine stepped on the gas with six second period goals led by a pair from Jessy Cardey to extend the lead to five at the half, 9-4.
Mackenzie Milham added a goal, assist and a steal in the third quarter and Danielle Warde scored twice as the led ballooned to eight at 14-6 by the conclusion of the period. Three more Anteaters' scores in the fourth quarter finished off the 10-goal win.
Warde led the way with four goals and added a pair of assists and steals for UC-Irvine. Jessy Cardey also scored a hat trick including one on a five-meter penalty shot.
Michaela Pierandozzi returned to the pool with two goals, an assist, a steal, and two earned exclusions, while Jillian Yocum and Annika Nelson split time in the net each stopping six shots to help UC-Irvine (16-6) to its 16th win of the season.
Brown continues its California swing on Tuesday at Pomona-Pitzer at 7:00 p.m. EST and at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 10:30 p.m. EST.
