
Men's Water Polo Advances to CWPA Northern Division Title Game

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Top-seeded Brown University men's water polo defeated Fordham University, 13-3, on Saturday afternoon at MIT's Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center/Alumni Pool to advance to the title game of the CWPA North Division Championship.
The No. 11 nationally-ranked Bears (23-6) topped the Rams (14-16) for the third time this season to move on to the championship contest.
Brown will play third-seeded and No. 19 nationally-ranked Harvard on Sunday at noon after the Crimson beat MIT (14-8) and St. Francis Brooklyn (11-10, OT).
Junior Matty Gallas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and sophomore Luke Irwin (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) paced Brown with three goals apiece while the Bears' defense did not allow the Rams to score after the first quarter. Irwin also posted two steals.
Sophomore Jake Wyatt (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) notched two goals ad two assists while sophomore Yahel Murvitz-Lahav (Tel Aviv, Israel) compiled a goal, five assists, and two steals.
Senior Henry Fox (Mercer Island, Wash.) tallied a goal and three steals, and freshman Tyler Kirchberg (Orinda, Calif.) added a goal and two steals. Freshman Tommy Bush (Lafayette, Calif.) chipped in one goal.
The Bears and Rams stood tied at 3-3 after one quarter before Brown scored the remainder of the contest's 10 goals.
Brown took an 8-3 lead at the half, pushed its edge to 10-3 after three quarters, and closed the game with a three-goal fourth quarter.
Sophomore goalie Luke Weiser (Los Alamitos, Calif.) made five saves for Brown.
The Bears have assured themselves a spot in the CWPA Championship from Nov. 21-23 at Navy as the top three teams from the CWPA Northern Division Championship automatically qualify for the tournament.
