
Men's Water Polo Captures CWPA Northern Division Title, Beats Harvard 9-6

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Top-seeded and No. 11-ranked Brown University men's water polo beat third-seeded and No. 19-ranked Harvard University, 9-6, in the CWPA Northern Division Championship Game on Sunday afternoon at MIT's Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center/Alumni Pool.
The Bears (24-6) topped the Crimson (21-8) for the fourth time this season to claim their first Northern Division title since 2009.
As the Northern Division champion, Brown will open play at the CWPA Championship at Navy on Nov. 21 at 3:20 p.m.
Freshman Tyler Kirchberg (Orinda, Calif.) led the Bears with three goals and an assist while senior Henry Fox (Mercer Island, Wash.) posted two goals, two steals, and two ejections drawn.
Junior Matty Gallas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) tallied two goals, senior Nick Deaver (Orinda, Calif.) compiled three steals and an assist, and freshman Tommy Bush (Lafayette, Calif.) notched a goal and two assists.
Sophomore Yahel Murvitz-Lahav (Tel Aviv, Israel) totaled a goal and three steals while classmate Jake Wyatt (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) contributed two assists and two steals.
The Bears jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter and pushed their advantage to 6-1 at halftime.
Harvard pulled within 7-4 late in the third quarter, but the Bears saw the result through with the two teams playing to a 2-2 draw the rest of the way.
Brown sophomore goalie Luke Weiser (Los Alamitos, Calif.) stopped 10 shots in the win to go with two steals and an assist.
