PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Breanna Rucker's game high 26 points helped a second half charge that propelled visiting Bryant to a 67-60 win over the Brown women's basketball team on Tuesday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
The Bears drop to 1-3 this season while Bryant wins for the fourth time in five outings to improve to 4-1.
Brown got a season high 21 points from captain Sophie Bikofsky (Newton, Mass.) as the senior connected on 7-of-11 attempts from the field, including 5-of-8 from long range.
Jordin Alexander (Fishers, Ind.) chipped in with 18 points and four assists, while Rebecca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y.), for the second consecutive game, equaled a career high with 12 points.
After struggling from the field at New Hampshire on Saturday, the Bears found the bottom of the net early on Tuesday night, jumping out to an early 16-6 lead on the strength of two treys from Bikofsky. The senior captain found her stroke in the first half, cashing in on 4-of-5 attempts from long distance.
The Bulldogs drew within four after buckets from Tiersa Winder and Breanna Rucker, but Brown extended its lead back up to 10 with 8:30 to play in the half on Alexander's layup that drew contact.
A pair of blocks by freshman Janie White (Clarksville, Tenn.) aided the Bears in taking a five-point cushion into the locker room. White finished the night with a team high eight rebounds.
As the Bears struggled for the floor early in the second half, the visiting Bulldogs took over with an 11-2 run in the opening minutes to gain a 42-38 lead. Rucker elevated her play in the second half, depositing 15 of her 26 points in the second stanza to keep the Bears from rallying.
Musgrove's jumper with 2:10 on the clock drew Brown back within four points, but that would be as close as the Bears would come as Tiersa Winder's trey on the following possession proved to be the crucial basket that would ice the game for the visitors.
White posted a game high three blocks, while Musgrove and Natalie Ball (Orlando, Fla.) each recorded a pair of steals. Winder (13) and Ivory Bailey (12) each totaled double figures for the Bulldogs, while Morgan Olander hauled in a game high 14 rebounds.
The Bears return to action on Friday for the first of two contests at this weekend's University of Maine November Tournament. Brown will play the host Black Bears on Friday before battling either Boston College or Wright State on Saturday afternoon.
