PRINCETON, N.J. – Sophomore Lucy Van Kleunen (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished 11th overall to lead the Brown women's cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship Saturday morning at Princeton's Windsor Fields.
Brown finished with 153 total points, while Dartmouth claimed the Ivy title with 47 points.
"Like the men, we showed real improvement but had little to show for it on the scoreboard, which is tough to swallow," said Tim Springfield, Director of Track & Field/Cross Country. "It is very encouraging to see a freshman and sophomore compete so well up front."
Van Kleunen, who was named Second Team All-Ivy, completed the 6-kilometer course in a time of 21:12.6. Rookie Natalie Schudrowitz (Milwaukee, Wis.) also posted a top-15 finish as she placed 15th overall in a time of 21:16.6.
"Lucy just keeps getting better. Today she did a great job of working herself up after getting buried a little at the start," said Springfield. "Natalie ran a tremendous race for a freshman. She wasn't at all tentative--she competed great."
Senior Leah Eickhoff (Hanover, N.H.) turned-in a 28th-place finish as she crossed the finish line in a time of 21:30.9. Juniors Lydia Davenport (New York, N.Y.) and Lily Harrington (West Hartford, Conn.) finished 49th and 50th, respectively, in times of 21:56.0 and 21:58.8 to round out the Brown scorers.
Senior Abigail Jones (Barrington, R.I.) and freshman Quinn Bornstein (Peacham, Vt.) completed the course in times of 22:06.6 and 22:11.6, respectively.
Brown will have two weeks to continue to prepare for the Northeast Regional Championships, which will take place on Friday, November 14 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York.
