
Deaver, Fox Lead No. 13 Men's Water Polo to 14-8 Win over Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Seniors Nick Deaver and Henry Fox each netted four goals to help lead No. 13 Brown University men's water polo past Iona College, 14-8, at the Hynes Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears (20-6) used a 7-1 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to distance themselves from the host Gaels (4-15).
Deaver (Orinda, Calif.) also posted eight steals while Fox (Mercer Island, Wash.) added four assists, and sophomore Yahel Murvitz-Lahav (Tel Aviv, Israel) recorded two goals.
Junior Will Klein (Pasadena, Calif.), sophomores Luke Irwin (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and Jake Wyatt (Corona Del Mar, Calif.), and freshman Austin Hwang (Laguna Hills, Calif.) each scored one goal.
In goal for Brown, senior Andrew Brown (Western Springs, Ill.) made nine saves, and sophomore Luke Weiser (Los Alamitos, Calif.) stopped eight shots.
Brown opened the contest with a 3-0 lead after the first quarter before Iona charted two quick goals in the next period to pull within 3-2.
The Bears held a 5-2 lead at halftime, but the Gaels pulled within 7-6 with 3:38 to play in the third frame.
From there, Brown began its decisive run with a 3-1 spurt to close the third quarter to pull ahead at 10-7. The Bears scored another four unanswered goals over the fourth quarter's first six minutes to claim a 14-7 advantage.
During the team's 7-1 streak, Fox registered three goals, and Deaver contributed two tallies.
Next, Brown plays at No. 17 St. Francis Brooklyn (10 a.m.) and at Fordham (4 p.m.) tomorrow to close out its regular season.
