Brown Tops Ivy League Foe Cornell, 155-145

Ithaca, N.Y. – The Brown men's and women's swimming & diving teams were in action on Saturday, taking on Cornell. The men's squad put up a strong performance, posting a 155-145 win over the Big Red, while the women were topped 169-131.
The Brown men started the day with a strong performance on the one-meter boards as senior Jonathan Feldman took second-place with a mark of 292.20, 6.37 points behind the first-place finisher Phillip Truong.
Junior John Hug took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing in 9:43.47, almost four seconds ahead of Cornell's Michael Reynolds.
Senior captain James Hunter made it two wins in a row, taking first in the 200 free with a mark of 1:40.85. Huneter also touched first in a close race against Cornell's Kevin Brazitis. Brown's captain finished just .55 seconds ahead.
Junior Mike McVicker placed first in the 100 breaststroke, edging out Cornell's Eric May. The third-year swimmer also picked up a win in the 200 breast with a time 2:05.70.
Sophomore Tommy Glenn put up a strong performance in the 200 butterfly, taking first by over four seconds with a mark of 1:49.61. Glenn also made it two wins on the day, taking the 500 free in 4:36.45.
The Bears kept the wins coming as sophomore Paul Hunter placed first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.44.
Rookie Jeffrey Strausser won the 100 butterfly, edging out Cornell's Henry Scott by just .32 seconds, finishing in 49.60.
McVicker made a three-win day, taking the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:53.27.
Brown ended day off with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of Glenn, Oliver Diamond, Strausser and Hunter, topped the Cornell squad by almost a second, touching the wall in 3:04.83.
The Brown women got their first win of the day in the 200 free as rookie Kate Dillione took the title by over a second with a 1:52.52 showing.
The Bears dominated the 50 free taking the top three spots. Senior Kristen Caldarella, and sophomores Emma Lamothe and Megan Nolet finished 1-2-3, with times of 24.25, 24.55 and 24.60, respectively.
Caldarella made it two wins in a row, taking the 100 free with a time of 52.59.
Junior Meghan Earley took the title in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 2:05.95, almost a second ahead of teammate Melanie Pascal, who finished in 2:06.84.
Brown ended the day with a win, taking the 400 free relay. The team of Caldarella, freshman Justine Maher, Dillione and Lamothe combined to finish in 3:29.83.
