Providence, RI- Freshman defender Alex Markes (Valencia, Calif.) played a solid 91 minutes for the Brown men's soccer team (10-4-4, 4-1-1 Ivy) this past Saturday evening in New Haven as he played an integral role in shutting out the Yale Bulldogs, 1-0, in overtime at Reese Stadium.
The win, which sprung the team into first place in Ivy League standings, was the Bears' ninth shutout of the season and third straight victory. Markes and the stingy Brown defense did not allow Yale to get off any shots during the game and allowed the Bulldogs to just one corner kick to Brown's 13.
Markes has started in all 16 games for the Bears and has one goal on the year. He has played nearly every minute of every game, except for a total of 70 minutes this season.
