
Bears to Face Holy Cross Saturday Afternoon in 3rd Straight Non-League Game

Today: Brown closes out a three-game non-league stretch, all against teams from Atlantic Hockey, on Saturday afternoon at Holy Cross. This afternoon's game against the Crusaders marks the sixth game between Brown and Holy Cross all-time and the first since December of 2004 when the Bears earned a 5-2 win in the Championship Game of the UConn Hockey Classic. Following Saturday's game at Holy Cross, Brown will close out its first semester with a home-and-home series against its travel partner, Yale. The teams play in New Haven on December 1st and face off in Providence on December 3rd.
This Date Historically Speaking: All-time, Brown is 3-6-2 in games played on November 26th, including a 2-3-2 record in away games. Brown's last game played on November 26th was a 2-1 victory over Providence College in the 2006-07 Mayor's Cup game. The Bears' last away game played on November 26th was a 4-4 tie at St. Cloud State in 2005-06.
Last Time Out: The Bears dropped a 3-0 decision at home to AIC, falling to the Yellow Jackets for the first time in nine games (8-1-0). Brown was flat from the opening faceoff and couldn't generate much offense, failing to connect on passes in the zone and playing a step behind for the majority of the game. Senior Mike Clemente recorded 27 saves on 29 shots, as AIC scored an empty net goal to close the win with 1:10 remaining. Junior Chris Zaires led Brown with five shots, while sophomore Matt Wahl led Brown with three blocked shots. Senior Jack Maclellan was 19-26 in the faceoff circle.
Brown vs. Holy Cross: Brown and Holy Cross have met 5 times, with the Bears leading the all-time series, 4-1-0. In their last meeting, in the Championship Game of the 2004 UConn Hockey Classic, the Bears defeated the Crusaders, 5-2, on December 31, 2004. The series began in 1927-1928, a 4-1 Brown win. Holy Cross picked up its only win in the series, 3-1, the following year. The two teams also met recently in 2003, a 4-2 Bears' win. Prior to 2003, the two teams had not faced each other since 1950.
Bears versus the Crusaders: Brown has never faced Holy Cross with any member of the current team. The last meeting between the two schools was during the 2004-05 season, four years before the current seniors enrolled at Brown.
Scouting Holy Cross: The Crusaders have dropped their two previous games, getting swept on the road at RIT, 2-0 and 6-5, last weekend. Prior to the series at RIT, Holy Cross had earned a 6-4 victory over Sacred Heart on November 12th. The Crusaders are led by sophomore Adam Schmidt, who has 9 points (6g, 3a) in 10 games, while junior Brandon Nunn (4g, 4a), and seniors Mike Daly (1g, 7a) and Andrew Cox (1g, 7a) all have 8 points. Schmidt also leads the team with four power play goals, while Nunn and junior Brendan Baker have two power play goals. Four different players hvae scored Holy Cross' four game-winning goals. Freshman Matt Ginn has played the majority of time in net for Holy Cross and has a 3.72 GAA with a .874 save percentage in 9 games (515:36). Junior Thomas Tysowsky has played in 2 games (80:00) and has a 4.50 GAA with a .870 save percentage.
