PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown women's lacrosse team (7-5) will host Boston College (9-4) in its final home game of the 2010 season on Sunday afternoon, April 18, at 1:00 p.m. The contest will also mark the final game at Stevenson Field for the four members of the Class of 2010: Molly McCarthy (Scituate, MA) and tri-captains Bethany Buzzell (Middletown, MD), Kara Kelly (Garden City, NY), and Kiki Manners (North Potomac, MD). Fans who can not make it to Providence for Sunday's contest can follow the game live on Brownbears.com with livestats, audio, and or video ($7.00).
THE GAME: The Bears enter Sunday's game against BC
following a heart-breaking, 10-9 loss to Cornell on Friday. Brown
will look to close out the home portion of its schedule with a
victory, which would ensure the Bears a winning record for the
season, something that has not been accomplished since 1999 when
Brown was 7-7.
LAST TIME OUT: Against the Big Red on Friday, sophomore Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) scored four goals in the game's
final 10 minutes to spark a second-half come back for Brown with
her fourth goal tying the score at 9-9 with 1:13 remaining.
However, Cornell would score the game-winner with 1.5 seconds
remaining on a controversial free position attempt to clinch the
win. McGilloway led Brown with four goals, while juior Paris Waterman (Newark, DE) and freshman Lindsay Minges (Rochester, NY)
each scored two. Sophomore Katelyn Caro (Andover, MA) had the ninth
goal for the Bears. Waterman led Brown in the midfield with six
ground balls and four draw controls, while junior Alexa Caldwell
(Middletown, DE) earned three draw controls for Brown. Sophomore
Isabel Harvey (Baltimore, MD) recorded eight saves in net, six of
which came in the second half.
ALL-TIME VS. BOSTON COLLEGE: Brown is 18-7 all-time against the
Eagles, after last year's 13-5 loss. Brown's last
victory over Boston College came in 2006 when the Bears posted a
10-7 win on the strength of a pair of hat tricks from Kate Staley
'06 and Jadie DeTolla '08. Since then, the Eagles have
won three straight games, earning a 13-3 win in 2007, a 19-9
victory in 2008, and a 13-5 win last season.
LAST YEAR VS. BOSTON COLLEGE: In the 2009 contest, BC broke open
what was a 1-1 game, scoring three straight goals en route to a 6-2
halftime lead and never looked back to post a 13-5 victory over the
Bears. Brown was led by Kaela McGilloway '12 and Kelly
Robinson '09, who both scored a pair of goals, while Bethany Buzzell '10 notched one for Brown, assisted by McGilloway.
Isabel Harvey '12 recorded seven saves in net.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Eagles enter today's game
following an 18-11 victory over Boston University. The win
continued BC's trend of alternating wins and losses during
its past four games, earning a 19-5 win over Iona and dropping
games to Virginia (12-6) and Duke (12-11). Lauren Costello
'10 currently leads the Eagles with 73 points (40g, 33a),
while Kristin Igoe '11 (33g, 10a) and Brooke Blue '13
(32g, 11a) both have 43 points on the year. BC has four other
scorers who have reached double digits, while an additional six
players have notched at least three points. Igoe also leads BC with
23 ground balls, while Plumb also leads the team with 16
ground balls and 15 caused turnovers, while Katherine Caufield
'12 has 26 draw controls to lead the team and Jill Rekart
'11 has a team-high 16 caused turnovers. Sheila Serafino
'11 has seen the majority of time in net this season and has
a 7.97 GAA to go along with a .479 save percentage.
