PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Brown women's lacrosse team (7-7, 2-5) dropped a 19-5 decision to #6 Penn in the Bears' 2010 Ivy League finale. Junior Paris Waterman (Newark, DE) and sophomore Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) led Brown with a pair of goals each, while junior Alexa Caldwell (Middletown, DE) also scored.
The two teams traded goals early with Penn going up, 1-0, 1:02 into the game and then McGilloway answering with a free position goal for Brown just 2:01 later. However, the Quakers answered at the 6:38 mark and never looked back, scoring an additional four goals to grab a 6-1 lead just 12:10 into the game.
Waterman's first of the day midway through the half halted
Penn's momentum, but the Quakers went on a 5-0 run over a period of
about five minutes to increase their lead to 11-2 with 8:36 left
before halftime.
Waterman scored her second of the day to again stop the momentum, a
6-0 run by Penn, which included the first four goals of the second
half, gave the Quakers their largest lead of the day, 17-3, just
5:45 after the break.
A pair of goals by McGilloway and Caldwell brought Brown to
within 17-5, but that was as close as the Bears would get, as Penn
closed the scoring with the final two goals of the game.
Waterman also led Brown with a pair of ground balls, while junior
Krissi Penikis (Swarthmore, PA) had a pair of caused turnovers.
Sophomore Isabel Harvey (Baltimore, MD) made three saves in 39:28,
before giving way to freshman Brienne Donovan (Pine Township, PA),
who stopped two shots in 20:32.
The Bears will close their 2010 season on Sunday, May 9, when they
travel to Durham, NC to face Duke, currently ranked #4 in the
country, in an 11:00 a.m. game.
