
Bears to Host Cornell Friday at 4:00

THE GAME: The Bears enter Friday's game against Cornell
having won their previous three games; 19-4 over Bryant, 14-12 over
Columbia, and 17-9 over Manhattan. Brown is 2-3 in Ivy League play
and still in the hunt for a spot in the inaugural Ivy League
Tournament pending results against Cornell and Penn and results
involving Yale, Harvard, and Cornell.
LAST TIME OUT: Against the Jaspers on Sunday, sophomore Kaela McGilloway, the reigning Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week,
notched a career-high 10 points (5g, 5a) to lead eight different
goal scorers and nine different players with at least one point.
Her 10 points capped off a week where she posted 20 points (9g,
11a) in the Bears' three victories. Junior Paris Waterman
(2g, 1a) and freshman Lindsay Minges (1g, 2a) both had three
points, while freshman Katie DeLuca joined them with the first
three points of her career, all goals. Junior Krissi Penikis helped
to lead the defense with a team-high four ground balls and three
caused turnovers, while Penikis and Waterman both had three draw
controls to help lead the Bears. Sophomore Isabel Harvey, the
reigning Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, recorded eight
saves, allowing five goals, in just under 44 minutes to earn her
seventh win of the season. Freshman Brienne Donovan played just
over 16 minutes of relief in the game, earning her third appearance
of the season.
ALL-TIME VS. CORNELL: Cornell leads the all-time series with Brown
by a 16-14 margin, including winning the last 10 meetings between
the two teams. In games played in Providence, the series is tied,
8-8.
LAST YEAR VS. CORNELL: In the 2009 contest, Cornell broke a 6-6 tie
with four straight goals to go up, 10-6, and effectively put the
game out of reach in what was a 12-9 victory for the Big Red, then
ranked 20th in the nation. Lauren Vitkus '09 led Brown with
three goals, while Kelly Robinson '09 and Jesse Nunn
'09 each added two goals in the loss. Alexa Caldwell
'11 (1g) and Callie Lawrence '09 (1g) also scored in
the game, which saw Gianna Spinelli '12 record five saves and
Madeline Wasser '10 make one.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Like Brown, Cornell is 2-3 in League play
and joins the Bears and Yale in the hunt for the final spot in the
inaugural Ivy League Tournament. Harvard is also in the mix, and
enters the weekend with a 1-3 League record with three games
remaining. The Big Red enter Friday's game following a 9-6
loss to Dartmouth last Saturday. Cornell is 1-4 in its last five
games, having defeated Princeton, 11-8, and lost to Penn (15-6),
Florida (10-5), and Harvard (10-4) in addition to Dartmouth. Jessi
Steinberg '12 currently leads the Big Red with 29 points
(27g, 2a), while Libby Johnson '11 (11g, 10a) has also earned
at least 20 points this season. Other players who have double
digits in scoring include Shannon McHugh '12 (10g, 2a) and
Katie Kirk '12 (11g). Katie Ivory '13 leads the team
with 16 ground balls, while Steinberg leads Cornell with 25 draw
controls and Tissy O'Connor '10 paces the Big Red with
15 caused turnovers. Kyla Dambach '12 has seen the majority
of time in net this season and has a 9.96 GAA to go along with a
.442 save percentage.
