RIVERDALE, NY – Sophomore Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) notched a career-high 10 points, split evenly between goals and assists, to help lead Brown (7-4) to a 17-9 victory over Manhattan on Sunday morning at Gaelic Park. McGilloway's 10- point performance capped off a week where the Bears' leading scorer tallied 20 points (9g, 11a) in three games, all wins.
Helped in part by two goals and three assists from McGilloway, Brown pulled away during the remainder of the half, outscoring Manhattan, 5-1, during this time to enter the break with an 11-5 advantage. In addition to McGilloway's five points, Caldwell, Rooke, and freshman Lindsay Minges (Rochester, NY) also scored, while Buzzell had one assist.
Brown opened the second half with sophomore Julia Keller (Concord, MA) finishing a feed from McGilloway 6:47 in, to increase Brown's lead to 12-5. After a period of back-and-forth action by both teams, Manhattan ended a scoreless stretch of nearly nine minutes with its sixth goal of the game.
However, Brown never allowed the Jaspers to get back into the contest, as sophomore Julianne Bishop (Westwood, MA) assisted back-to-back goals by McGilloway and freshman Katie DeLuca (Hillsborough, NJ) 21 seconds apart to increase the Bears' lead to 14-6 with 12:54 remaining.
Manhattan responded just 18 seconds after DeLuca's first career goal. However, DeLuca added two more tallies, the first on a free position shot and the second assisted by Minges, giving Brown a 16-7 lead. Another Waterman goal, assisted by Keller, with 6:29 left gave the Bears their biggest lead of the day at 17-7.
The Jaspers closed out the scoring with a pair of goals in the final five minutes to account for the 17-9 final.
Sophomore Isabel Harvey (Baltimore, MD) notched eight saves in net, allowing five goals, while freshman Brienne Donovan (Pine Township, PA) allowed four goals in relief.
Junior Krissi Penikis (Swarthmore, PA) had a team-high four ground balls for Brown, while Waterman and Penikis both earned three draw controls to lead the Bears. Penikis also had a team-high three caused turnovers.
After three straight away games, the Bears return home this
