
Bears End Season with 54-41 Loss to Columbia

New York, NY- Columbia's Judie Lomax poured in 20 points
and grabbed 27 rebounds to help the Lions to a 54-41 victory over
the Brown women's basketball team at Levien Gym this evening.
Sophomore Aileen Daniels (Waldwick, NJ) led the Bears'
offense for the second straight night with 14 points and nine
rebounds. The Lions ended the season 18-10 overall with a 9-5 mark
in the Ivy League, while the Bears dropped to 8-20 overall and
finished 5-9 in the league.
The Lions jumped out to a 12-5 lead after the first five minutes of
play and a lay-up by Judie Lomax as the 12:11 mark put Columbia
ahead 17-8. Columbia continued to roll with the 14 points and 13
rebounds by Lomax in the first half as the squad built a 25-11 lead
with 6:43 remaining in the stanza.
But the Bears began its comeback with a three pointer by junior
Sarah Delk, (Atlanta, GA) followed by a layup by Daniels to cut
Brown's deficit to 10, 27-17 with 4:05 on the clock. Then a
three by sophomore Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) brought the Bears
within seven, and layups by Daniels and Caroline King cut Columbia
lead to 27-25 at 1:49. But Lomax put in a jumper to take a 29-25
lead heading into the locker room at half.
The Bears shot 32 percent from the field and were led by
Daniels' eight points and five boards. Columbia, led by
Lomax's 14 points and 13 boards shot 36 percent from the
floor and out-rebounded the Bears 22-19 in the first half.
Bonds made a free throw to start the second half to cut the deficit
to three, and then made another just two minutes later to come
within two, 29-27, of the Lions. Daniels then netted a big jumper
to tie the game at 29, but that was as close as Brown would get, as
Columbia made a 10-2 run to roar to a 39-31 lead.
Columbia gained as much as a 17-point lead, but the Bears were able
to cut the Lions' lead to 13, but that was as close as the
Bears would come.
Daniels led the Bears in scoring for the second consecutive night
with 14 points and nine rebounds, followed by Courtney Lee with six
points, five steals and two assists. Brown ended the night shooting
just 26 percent from the field and was just 3-of-13 from beyond the
arc.
Lomax ended the night with 20 points and 27 rebounds and Danielle
Browne chipped in with 15 points. The Lions shot 38 percent from
the field and made just two of 17 attempts from beyond the arc.
