
Bears to Host St. Mary's Tuesday at 1:00

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Bears enter Tuesday's game against
St. Mary's following an 11-10 win over Harvard on Saturday, their
second straight victory over the Crimson. Brown begins a two-game
homestand this afternoon against the Gaels, as it will host
Dartmouth in its fourth Ivy game of the season on Saturday. This
afternoon's contest marks the second meeting all-time between
the two programs and the first since March 2007.
LAST TIME OUT: Against the Crimson on Saturday,
sophomore Kaela McGilloway paced the offense with five goals and
one assist, while junior Alexa Caldwell added two goals and senior
Molly McCarthy posted a pair of assists. Senior Kara Kelly, junior
Paris Waterman, and freshmen Lindsay Minges and Tara Rooke (gwg)
all scored a goal in the game. The Bears raced out to an 8-3
halftime lead, outshooting Harvard, 19-4, during the opening 30
minutes and then stretched that lead to 10-3 early in the second.
Brown stood strong during the final 20 minutes of play, during
which time Harvard outscored Brown, 7-1, including six straight
goals, to hold on for the one-goal victory. Waterman led Brown with
three draw controls and two caused turnovers, while Caldwell led
Brown with a pair of ground balls. Sophomore Isabel Harvey recorded
seven saves, several of which came in the final minutes of play
with Harvard looking to tie the game and force overtime.
ALL-TIME VS. ST. MARY'S: Brown is 1-0
all-time against the Gaels, winning the first meeting between the
two schools, 17-6, on March 24th, 2007.
LAST TIME VS. ST. MARY'S: In the 2007
contest, Brown raced out to a 7-3 lead in the first half and then
held a 15-4 lead with 12:28 left to play after a six-goal
second-half run. Jesse Nunn '09 led Brown with five goals,
while Lauren Vitkus '09 added three. Molly McCarthy '10
also helped to lead the Bears' attack, which saw nine
different goal scorers, dishing out a game-high five assists.
Melissa King '08 recorded five saves in 52:40, before giving
way to Amanda Rosenberg '10, who made two saves in
relief.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Gaels make their
second trip East this season to play Brown and Fairfield, after
facing Hofstra and Long Island on the road earlier this season. St.
Mary's enters Tuesday's game following a 16-8 loss to
Drexel on Friday. Mariah Walk '13 leads the Gaels with 21
points (17g, 4a), while Juliet Munroe '12 adds 18 points
(16g, 2a). Caroline Mahony '13 adds 14 points (9g, 5a), while
two other players, Amy Daniels '10 (11g, 2a) and Jillian
Chong '13 (10g, 3a) both have 13 points. Goalie Kathleen
Worsdale '13 leads the team with 23 ground balls, while Abbie
Coleman '10 and Maggie Schwab '10 each have 15. Coleman
leads the Gaels with 13 caused turnovers, while Ciara Breckenridge
'11 adds nine. Walk (22) and Coleman (17) are first and
second on the team in draw controls, respectively. Worsdale has
more-or-less split time in net with Whitney Campitiello '11.
Campitiello leads the way with a 14.93 GAA and a .337 save
percentage in six games (221:00), while Worsdale has a 17.61 GAA
and a .333 save percentage in five games (259:00).
