Providence, RI- The Dartmouth Big Green rolled to a 51-29
victory over the Brown University Bears on senior night at the
Pizzitola Sports Center. Leading the Big Green attack was Brittney
Smith and Sasha Dosenko with 12 points apiece, while senior
Christina Johnson (Oakland, CA) led the Bears' offense with
eight points and brought down a team-high six rebounds.
The Bears, coming off a tough game on Friday night, got down 10-2
after the first six minutes of play, and Dartmouth continued its
scoring spree and shot ahead 21-4 after a three by Margaret
Smith.
Brown continued to suffer on offense throughout the half. The Bears
were taking good shots, but just couldn't seem to get them to
fall as the squad connected on just three of 28 shots. Johnson
added five points, while sophomore Aileen Daniels (Waldwick, NJ)
added a basket and Courtney Lee chipped in with a free throw. The
Big Green was hot, hitting 54 percent of their shots. Faziah Steen
led with nine points and Sasha Dosenko brought down five boards.
The Big Green headed into halftime with a 35-8 lead.
While Dartmouth continued its hot shooting, the Bears started to
pick up their intensity on both ends of the floor, however, the Big
Green still held a 46-17 lead with 7:16 remaining in the game.
A jumper by Johnson cut Brown's deficit to 48-23 with 3:06
left on the clock, and Bonds, Hannah Passafuime (Soquel, CA) and
Lindsay Steele (Erial, NJ) added buckets for the Bears, but it just
wasn't enough to overcome the Big Green's lead they
built in the first half. Dartmouth left the Pizzitola with a 51-29
win, to extend their record to 11-14 on the year and improve to 6-5
in the Ivy League. The Bears dropped to 7-19 and moved to 4-8 in
the league.
The Bears will close out the season when it travels to Cornell for
a 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5 and then takes on Columbia at 7:00
p.m. the following night.
